There are 17 known species of Paulownia cultivated for thousands of years in different parts of the world, with a wide range of growth habits and performance. However, few of them are commercially effective and only some of the individuals within these species are tall, upright, and fast-growing trees. A variety that grows well in the first year does not mean will subsequently maintain this rhythm and, then may never achieve the commercial characteristics of mature Paulownia tree.

 In order to guarantee performance, it is imperious to know the origin of seedlings; planting the Paulownia trees from shrubs, roots, tissues (clones) or from seeds of trees that have reached sexual maturity (10-15 years after planting), randomly grew or cultivated for ornamental purposes, requires an inefficient investment with uncertain outcomes, certainly not recommended.  Finally, even a minor difference in the selection of the seedlings to be planted can contribute in a considerable way to achieve the success rate initially projected. Below, this is an eloquent example, in this regard: a Paulownia Tomentosa certified by Paulownia Development , and ordinary Paulownia growing from seeds and seedlings without certificate of origin. Plants were grown for 15 months under identical conditions.
